Pack the car for the five miles of Coast Highway 101 between the two towns. Do not assume you can walk between your hotel, dinner, and the race site. The coastal villages are spread across a fifteen-mile string, and rideshare wait times spike to twenty or thirty minutes when the race finishes. You need a car. You also need a plan for Sunday evening, because Carlsbad Village restaurants close by 8pm on Sundays, leaving only pizza and fast casual for a post-race meal. Book in June through August for peak season. July sees added pressure from the Supergirl Surf Pro in Oceanside and the Del Mar racing season, which tightens hotel availability across the corridor. Avoid the last two weeks of August and the first week of September, when tourist volume peaks and hotel rates hit their ceiling. Avoid Oceanside during the Ironman 70.3 Oceanside weekend in early April unless you are racing it, because the town is saturated.
